Bolivia

Bolivia is a poor country located in the central part of South America, characterised by a generally humid climate in addition to a relatively low population density that resides mainly in rural areas. It is bordered by Brazil, Argentina, and Peru.

Country Information

IG Factbook: "Bolivia, named after independence fighter Simon Bolivar, broke away from Spanish rule in 1825 - much of its subsequent history has consisted of a series of nearly 200 coups and countercoups. Democratic civilian rule was established in 1982, but leaders have faced difficult problems of deep-seated poverty, social unrest, and illegal drug production. In December 2005, Bolivians elected Movement Toward Socialism leader Evo Morales president - by the widest margin of any leader since the restoration of civilian rule in 1982 - after he ran on a promise to change the country's traditional political class and empower the nation's poor, indigenous majority."

Recommendations

  • Due to its poverty, Bolivia is one of the best countries to start in when playing scenarios such as Who Cares. This is also why Bolivia is one of the best countries to start in with the Shadow Plague.
  • One of the VS Mode strategies is to use the Urbophobe gene and start in Bolivia, this gene gives a bonus to the player in rural areas, all South American countries are considered rural in the game, which would help spread the infection quickly, Bolivia is in the center of the continent so it helps to spread the disease in a short time in addition to evolving transmissions such as Livestock 1, would allow the player to get it much faster. In addition, by starting in Bolivia with this gene, a fair infection rate can be obtained in the neighboring country of Argentina even if no transmissions have been evolved,[1] this is useful since this country has several sea routes that serve the plague to spread in different continents.
  • In Cure Mode, one of the ways to contain a Bio-Weapon outbreak in South America is for the disease to start in Bolivia or other countries that don't have airports such as Colombia and Peru. Because if it starts in these type of countries, the player will have enough time to isolate and lockdown South America.[2]

Trivia

  • Bolivia is the Latin American country with the lowest population density in the game, which has a value of 0.75, which is relatively a very low value compared to its neighboring countries, which have a density of 1.[Note 1]
  • It is the country with the least research facilities out of any country, with only 2 (or 3 in the Golden Age scenario). However, in the Mirror Earth scenario, it has 10 because it's considered as a rich country in that scenario.
  • As of the V0.9.0.3 Batch for the Multiplayer Mode released at the end of 2015, Bolivia along with the Caribbean were the only countries in Latin America where the DNA Points bonus was changed when the player started in these countries.[3]
  • In a concept comic about the Neurax Worm it takes place in a cave in Bolivia.[4]

Notes

  1. Population density information is available in the Scenario Creator. The population density determines how close people are to each other to become infected in a given territory.

Having the Rurophobe gene, from an Urban SC, without Livestock 2, a plague’s infectivity in Argentina will be zero–regardless of its Infectivity parameter. A plague starting in Bolivia with Urbophobe, however, will have a fair infection rate in Argentina –even without evolving a single transmission trait.
