Peptide Surge is a symptom exclusive to the Necroa Virus. It causes growth hormone production which builds up the zombies' muscles, and it makes zombies stronger which in turn increases the zombies' severity.
This symptom is key when it comes to fighting the Z-Com bases, because it allows Necroa Virus to unlock symptoms that increase the strength of zombies in general.[1]
