General Information
Coughing up blood from inflamed bronchi increases infectivity and is fatal in extreme cases.
(Simian Flu, Smallpox & Black Death)
Patients cough up bright-red, foamy blood from the respiratory tract. Increasingly infectious, particularly in urban environments

Haemoptysis[Note 1] is a symptom that affects the respiratory system present in different official scenarios of the game such as Nipah Virus, Black Death, Swine Flu and Smallpox as well as the special plague of Simian Flu. This symptom is mainly characterized by increasing the severity rate and slightly lethality in most of its variants, where through the inflammation of the bronchial tubes causes infected people to cough up blood, this can be lethal in extreme cases.

Variants

Simian Flu

The variant of this symptom in this disease is characterized by increased infectivity and severity, as well as giving the pathogen a +0.1 in urban environments.[1]

Nipah Virus

This plague requires the previous evolution of special abilities to unlock certain branches of this symptom, in the case of Haemoptysis it is necessary to previously evolve Respiratory Shift to obtain this symptom. Additionally, this variant gives a +0.1 effectiveness bonus in urban environments.[2]

Smallpox

The Smallpox variant is mainly characterized by making the disease much more difficult to cure than other Haemoptysis variants.[3]

Black Death

The variant of this symptom requires the special ability of Septicemic plague, which can help the pathogen infect the blood stream. Unlike other variants, this one helps to increase the transmission through air by +30.[4]

Swine Flu

The Haemoptysis variant for this scenario is mainly characterised by increased severity, additionally it presents a unique feature, which is that it reduces the mutation rate of the virus as well as presenting no effect towards cure in contrast to other variants of the same symptom.[Note 2]

Cure Effects

Plague Cure Requirement Research Inefficiency
Simian Flu +0.01 0
Nipah Virus +0.01 0
Smallpox +0.05 0
Black Death 0 0

Notes

  1. US Spelling: Hemoptysis - Plague Inc. is developed by a British game studio, so it uses UK spelling (Wiktionary Entry)
  2. The variable that specifically alters this trait is named as change_to_mutation in the game code.[5]
