NAZG is not so impossible on PC, since you can keep reloading until Rabies event show up.
It's still a massive RNGfest and takes forever due to the absence of high-lethality non-zombie symptoms. You would need to be completely precise in every move, as a single instance of bad timing invariably results in a loss. And Genetic Reshuffles don't even work with the Necroa Virus. Like, at all. I tried using them during a Necroa Virus run and both Reshuffles did absolutely nothing. Moreover, even if you do everything right you could still lose simply because of sheer bad luck.
Rurophile isn't really bad, usually I pick Extremophile but if you start in a rural place like India or Brazil it could be a decent gene in the beginning.
There are quite a lot of rural countries in the game and a lot of them aren't poor (for example Brazil, India, Argentina, Russia, Poland, Finland, Turkey, Indonesia and pretty much all of eastern europe). Infecting Russia quickly will also help you with getting into Greenland more easily
Also Translesion + is better than Ionised helix if you devolve often. After each time you devolve the DNA gain from the next devolving is reduced by 1 (regardless of the plague type) so for example with a bacteria you'd gain 2 Dna at first but then only 1, 0 and from the 4th time you devolve you'd start losing DNA. Ionised Helix gives a bonus of 2 more DNA (so you'd gain 4 instead of 2) but you still lose 1 every time so it's worse in the long run.
Still, both of these genes are kinda useless and the Sympto/Trans/Patho-Stasis genes are so much better than them.
Native Biome isn't that bad too since it speeds up your start and you can use it if the start of the game feels too slow to you, though generally I prefer Aquacyte to deal with the island countries like Greenland or the Carribean.
I think Supression is worse because by the time countries close their borders you should have already infected all the nearby countries, or evolved the Bird transmission 1/2 which makes land transmission fast anyway.
